Keeping Your Cat Healthy

May 15, 2022

Kitties are usually pretty easy keepers: they’re known as being easy keepers. However, they aren’t as invincible as they seem to think. Just like any other animal, it’s crucial for them to have proper care. A Middletown, DE vet discusses keeping Fluffy happy, healthy, and safe in this article.

Good Food

Great pet care really starts with a great diet. Cats are very, very good at ‘meowpulating’ their humans into filling their bowls on demand, so you may need to steel yourself against Fluffy’s adorable kitty theatrics. Ask your vet for nutritional specific advice, including portion sizes and suitable snacks.

Regular Veterinary Care

Many of our feline pals don’t come in as often as they should! Fluffy should be microchipped, spayed or neutered, and kept current on preventative care. Regular exams are also important.

Litterbox

Dirty litterboxes are not only smelly and unsightly: they’re also havens for germs. Keep your kitty’s box nice and clean!

Fixing Fluffy

One of the best things you can do for your furry best friend is to get her fixed. This is very important for animal welfare, as it helps prevent unwanted litters. Fluffy will also benefit physically, as she’ll be less prone to certain illnesses. (Bonus: she won’t be as interested in singing, trying to get out, or marking her territory.)

Playtime

Cats needs to stay active to stay healthy, just as we do. Of course, you probably won’t find Fluffy running laps around the kitchen. Provide lots of toys, and take time to play with your feline pal regularly.

Grounding

It may be cute watching Fluffy roll around in the grass, or chase a butterfly across the yard. However, outdoor kitties are exposed to some very serious threats, such as traffic, weather, chemicals, and other animals. They’re also more likely to pick up parasites, or get lost or injured. Keep your furry friend safe and sound indoors!

Climate Control

In summer, make sure Fluffy always has cool water and access to cool areas. In winter, she’ll need a warm, comfy bed. Brushing your feline buddy regularly will help keep her comfortable all year.

Love

Stress, loneliness, boredom, and anxiety can all take a toll on Fluffy’s well-being. Paying lots of attention to your furry pal and keeping her entertained will help keep her happy and healthy
