Take Your Cat to the Vet Day

August 1, 2020

August 22nd is a big day for Fluffy … it’s Take Your Cat To The Vet Day! It’s probably safe to say that most of our feline patients, given the choice, would rather spend the day napping. However, proper veterinary care is very important to your pet’s health and well-being! A Middletown, DE vet discusses taking your kitty to the vet in this article.

Fluffy’s Appointment Schedule

Your furry friend’s veterinary care needs will change as she ages. When Fluffy is a kitten, she’ll need to come in a few times. Microchipping, spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, and exams are all on the agenda. This is very important, as you want to get your furball started out on the right paw in life! Adult cats may only need to come in once or twice a year. Ask your vet for recommendations.

Emergency Care

Cats can be very secretive little furballs. This is often cute, but it can backfire. Kitties often try to hide signs of illness. This is innate behavior, and it’s tied into Fluffy’s natural instincts. Predators are often attracted to animals that show signs of weakness. Unfortunately, your furry buddy could be very sick by the time you notice anything wrong! Pay attention to your feline pal, and keep an eye out for changes in her breathing, behavior, appetite, vocalizations, or appearance. Call your vet immediately if you notice anything amiss.

The Trip

We probably don’t have to tell you that most cats are not very fond of car rides. Kitties get very scared in moving vehicles! We do everything we can to make visits easy on our patients. That’s why we’re going Fear Free. This means that we put a tremendous amount of effort into making appointments as easy and comfortable as possible for our patients. That said, there are some things you can do to make the drive more pleasant for your furball. Add comfy bedding and toys to Fluffy’s carrier, and leave it out sometimes, so she gets used to it. On the drive over, try to avoid potholes, speed bumps, sharp turns, and fast stops or starts. You may also want to play a radio softly and crack a window, to keep fresh air circulating.

Please reach out to us here at Galena Animal Medical Clinic, your Middletown, DE vet clinic, anytime. We’re dedicated to offering great veterinary care.
