Celebrating Wolfenoot With Fido

November 15, 2021

There’s a ‘pawesome’ new doggy holiday on the calendar, and the puparazzi are jumping for joy. Wolfenoot is coming up on November 23rd. Wolfenoot may very well be the most adorable pet holiday ever. It was started by a little boy in New Zealand as a way to honor wolves, dogs, and everybody who has been kind to them. A Middletown, DE vet goes over this special occasion.

Basics

Wolfenoot hasn’t been around for long: it only started in 2018. A little boy wanted to do something to honor those who have been kind to animals, and came up with the idea of Wolfenoot. His mother got on board, and it wasn’t long before wolf and dog lovers were singing (or howling) its praises. You can learn more about Wolfenoot at the official website here.

Celebrating

There are some very specific—and adorable—ways to celebrate Wolfenoot. A big part of the fun is leaving small gifts out for people who have been kind to dogs. If you want to get your canine buddy in on the fun, you can also leave him things to seek out, such as toys or small snacks. Once all the gifts have been found, it’s time for dinner. That should consist of red meat, because that’s what wolves eat, though vegetarians can go with a plant-based option. For dessert, you can have a round cake frosted to look like a full moon. There’s even an official greeting for the ‘Wolfenati’ to use: Have a Howly Wolfenoot!

Spreading The Word

We’re more than happy to help spread the word about Wolfenoot. Of course, given that the true meaning of Wolfenoot is kindness, you can also honor the Spirit of The Wolf by being kind to animals. There are many great ways to do that. One option is to support local animal shelters and rescues. Donations are always appreciated, but you can also consider volunteering, or perhaps even fostering a pet in need. Kindness to wild animals also matters. Make your home into a habitat for birds and bees by planting lots of flowers and reducing your use of harmful chemical lawn/garden products. Of course, if you really want to go all-out, you may even want to consider adopting.

Please reach out if there is ever anything that we can do for you. As your Middletown, DE animal clinic, we’re here to help.
